Since there has been no news about season 9 dvd/blu-ray release, should I expect not completing my collection? I’ve seen no release date or updates about dvd/blu-ray release and I am getting kind of worried we might not get them at all. Do you have any info on that? Since the season 10 poster is so cool I would love to see it as a dvd cover but because even season 9 isn’t out, I’m not so sure 😅

Hi anon! Sadly, there has been no new at all about an official Seasion 9 dvd/blu-ray release in the U.S. and if we haven't heard by now -- a good six months after it's usually released (or at least announced) -- I doubt we're getting one.

Some people have pointed me to a couple of Australian sites that appear to be selling some version of a S9 DVD for that region, and a couple of third-party sellers through Walmart and Ebay who claim to have DVD's, but none of those look official to me and I wouldn't trust them. There's usually no mystery about an official release - when it's released, it's released and there's a press announcement and a date and official pre-sales through big retailers like Amazon. They want to actually sell product if they print a blu-ray/dvd so there's no reason to bury it.

I think it's probably yet another sign of cost-cutting which is really unfortunate. I would love to have a full ten-season set in the end. And the "extras" such as the gag reel are always appreciated.

@friendshiptothemax if you have any insight on whether there will ever be a S9 DVD/blu-ray, we'd love to know.

Would you mind explaining the straw lore? I’ve seen people say Jensen’s dad told him drinking out of straws is not manly. I have no idea what the source on that is… and is the connection to the photo JA trolling his dad or is all of this blown out of proportion?

So, in 2013 at NJCon J2 Panel, Jensen took a sip of his iced tea and said, "I don't like straws. My father said once there's no manly way to drink from the straw". Jared then immediately drank his tea through the straw, they laughed and moved on. It was gifed, you can find screenshots on pinterest if you want.

Fastforward to the end of 2020 and people re-discovering 15 years of fandom history in one sit, and the straw quote is now used as a proof of Jensen's toxic masculinity/homophobia/you name it. And under every post that mentions Jensen doing something gender-nonconforming or saying something about gender, sexuality or masculinity, or even under posts about his new roles, in the notes, there would be people bringing up this moment as some sort of ultimate gotcha. Or, at best, acting like he said this yesterday and is finally opening his eyes. All this about the quote from 2013.

Now, don't get me wrong, it was a dumb thing to say. I watched that video, this moment was clearly meant as a bit and not an expression of his life philosophy or whatever, but it is a stupid joke and it made me cringe. God, I hate con videos, they give me terrible second-hand embarrassment.

But it's been 9 years ago. Jensen's younger kids weren't born yet, I'm not even sure about JJ. People can grow a lot over much shorter time, and I don't believe Jensen was a "bad" person to begin with. There are tons of evidence and stories about him being a kind and open-mided man, even if he were more conservative back then (idk if he actually was). To dismiss all that because he isn't a perfect paragon (neither are other cast members, nor any of us), to mock him for his efforts to change is cruel and disheartening. Yeah, he's a rich white man, he won't see it, but other people do, and it's disgusting.

As for the photo, he had it as his pfp for several years (I can't tell you when exactly because I wasn't in the fandom back then). It's actually from the extremelly cute Jensen/Danneel photoshoot, to which I can't find a link right now. Interestingly, it's was either made in 2012 or 2013. Hmm.

I don't think this pfp is related to Jensen's father, mostly because I don't believe this extremelly dumb idea really mattered to Jensen (as an adult) in any way and certainly not to the extent some parts of the fandom like to think. It's a nice goofy photo, very in his style, why not use it on SM?

PS. While I was searching for the straw quote, I found articles on the same topic, from this year (and one about growing up with cold fathers, lol). I think Jensen is ok, actually.

Judging 401 and 402, Castiel only appeared on 1 SCENE each, Jensen just worked (know) Misha for TWO days only

thinking about retake possibility, at most 3-4 days (which is not reasonable. At that time, neither Jensen nor Jared was pranking him, not to mention Misha not evening meeting Jared in person at that moment, Sam and Castiel met at 4x07...)

and neither Jensen nor Misha even described 4X01 their first met as a hard scene (which means there won't be many retake, safely assume), Misha did mention the director told he re-acted less spooky again, but that's it, I thought the whole filming at Castiel entrance was very smoothing, using very few takes only

Not to mention 4x02, Castiel only appear on screen less then 6 mins, for god sake, this definitely can finished shooting in a day, or even just required a few hours! The broad of SPN quote of date (on twitter) reveals they at least film 2 or more scene a day, 6 mins content definitely need to get done within a day.

——there is a stupid repost comment on the thread that someone said "pupil dilate when you focus on a near object"

the FACT is, pupil CONTRACT will you look at a close object, pupil DILATE when you look at far object. It is logical and make sense if you just think about it for 30s. 

Pupil need to dilate in order to catch more light to let you see clear the far away object

=> in this case, it is worse. BOTH Jensen and Misha pupils dilate WHEN THEY GET CLOSE TO EACH OTHER!

which means Misha/Jensen looked at each other as a "close object", their pupil should contract instead of dilate.

1st - The gif clearly captures the process of Misha and Jensen pupil changes. So the crew purposely moving the light equipment when the camera is rolling? For distracting the actors or make unnecessary noises?

2nd - We all know how expensive the editing effect is, right? This was counted as "frames", so the editing/special effects picture by picture is converted into money using the unit "per seconds". If, just if, I am the director/producer, I wish the least special effects  as it was. (not to mention SPN special effects was always being teased by my friends saying look inexpensive hmmmmm)

Like S9 Castiel healed by Gadreel, the actual thing happen is Jared holding 2 light bulb alike substances in hand when he act to heal Cass (from S9 gag reel)

I don't see the point for a sudden change of dim/light after the camera rolling(which the actual scene will reveal a sudden change of light and in 4x02, none of these sudden changes of light was observed), just to increase the burden and probably heart attack and work time of the editing crews.

**only Jensen was arguable was on fight-to-fight situation (which will also lead to pupil dilation), since he once describe 4x01 meeting Castiel(Misha) just like meeting Leviathan!Cass that he said "I peed a little."

but except that one, other Jensen's description 4x01 first meet Misha(Castiel) always described as "strange" "freak out" "weird", not necessary pointing towards "fear" emotion, therefore
